Armillaria mellea

Galleri Lokomotiv 9.1 - 31.1 2026
rhizomorphs sewn sewn onto paper.
sizes 40 × 50, 30 × 40 and 21 × 30

Armillaria mellea is a honey fungus that produces black root-like structures called rhizomorphs to travel through soil, infect new hosts, and transport nutrients. These cords grow under bark and in soil, often acting as the primary agent for spreading the pathogen between trees. These rhizomorphs can grow up to 1 meter long per year to find new, living tissue to infect. They can spread for miles, making them one of the largest living organisms on Earth by area and mass.

They are very much disliked by gardeners for killing trees and bushes.
